Building Your Robot Army in Destroy a Vault

How to build an effective robot army in Destroy a Vault: roster depth versus top-end power, deploying on the vault, and income that grows offline.

Why the army is the whole game

Destroy a Vault’s official loop reads like a machine diagram: roll rare robots, build an army to attack your vault, smelt the Gold into Cash, upgrade, unlock stronger vaults, repeat. The army is the part of that machine every other system feeds — damage comes from the army, Gold comes from the damage, and even your offline earnings are the army working without you. A bigger, stronger army is the single upgrade that improves every income stream at once.

Depth versus power: how to fill your roster

Two stats describe any army: top-end power (your best robot’s damage) and depth (how many robots contribute). The official promotional art captures the power axis perfectly — a tank scaling from 10 DPS to 5K DPS to 1M DPS as it upgrades. But depth is what smooths your income:

  • Every deployed robot adds damage. More robots on the vault means more simultaneous hits — the game’s own art shows multiple tanks laying into one vault door at once.
  • Depth insures your rolls. A deep roster absorbs weak rolls without stalling progress; a one-robot army lives and dies on each pull.
  • Depth compounds offline. The army you log out with is the army that earns while you sleep. Empty slots are unpaid slots.

Practical rule: keep every deployable slot filled with the best robot you own before you spend anything else.

Deploying on the vault

The assault itself is simple by design — your army gathers on your vault and works it open. The official screenshots show what that looks like in play: lasers on the vault door, gold bars erupting, damage popups in the tens of thousands once an army is rolling. Your levers on the damage curve are the four you cycle all game:

  1. Roll for higher rarity robots
  2. Upgrade the robots you field
  3. Expand the roster — army size itself is an upgrade axis
  4. Move up the vault ladder so the same army earns more per crack

Playing co-op: six players, one target

Servers hold up to six players, and the BOSSES update leans into exactly that: boss vaults built to be raided by stacked armies. In practice co-op means faster cracks on big targets and a livelier server economy. Your army is still yours — co-op changes the scale of the target, not how you manage your roster. The boss vault guide covers the raid layer in detail.

Army-building checklist

Before you log off each session, run this list — it is the difference between waking up to a pile of Gold and waking up to nothing:

  • All army slots filled with your best available robots
  • Recent good pulls deployed, not sitting in reserve
  • Cash not hoarded — unspent Cash is damage you did not buy (upgrade guide)
  • Vault tier matched to army strength — cracking the strongest vault you can handle, not the one you dream about
