How to Roll for Robots in Destroy a Vault

How robot rolling works in Destroy a Vault: what you spend, what you can hit, and when rolling beats upgrading — with practical rules.

How does rolling for robots work?

Rolling is the gacha heart of Destroy a Vault: the official description tells you to “roll for rare robots”, and everything else in the game — the army, the vault damage, the Gold income — grows out of what you pull. You spend resources at the roll interface for a random robot drawn from the game’s rarity tiers, then deploy your pulls to attack your vault. The roll UI shows the live tier table and odds in-game, which are the authoritative numbers.

What you are actually rolling for

Each roll answers one question: does this robot make the army stronger? Two outcomes matter:

  • A robot that beats your current roster — field it, and your damage (and offline Gold rate) steps up.
  • A duplicate or a weaker pull — not a dead loss. The game is an incremental simulator: roster depth feeds army building, and weaker pulls still contribute damage while your best robots carry.

Because the game frames collection as the goal (“Can you collect the rarest robots?”), the rarest tier pulls double as trophies — the game’s own icon celebrates the moment with a rainbow earnings counter and a winged vault.

When to roll, when to upgrade, when to stop

Rolling is a variable outcome; upgrading is a fixed one. A practical rhythm for most sessions:

  1. Open with a roll or two if your roster is thin — early pulls have the highest marginal value because anything can improve an empty army.
  2. Switch to upgrades once you field a working core. Deterministic damage gains compound into more Gold per hour, which funds better rolls later.
  3. Roll in bursts after income jumps. Unlocking a stronger vault tier or a big upgrade spike is the natural moment to reinvest in the ceiling.

Rolling and the economy

Rolls are paid out of the same economy as everything else — robots crack the vault for Gold, you smelt Gold into Cash, and Cash buys rolls, upgrades and base expansion. Two consequences:

  • Income first, rolls second. Anything that raises your Gold-per-hour (more robots on the vault, higher tiers) makes every future roll cheaper in real time.
  • Offline earnings are rolling fuel. Robots earn Gold while you are offline — a pile waiting at login is often exactly enough for a roll session without grinding.

Rules of thumb

  • Field your best army before you log off — offline income scales with the army you leave behind.
  • Do not chase the rarest tier with money you need for upgrades; the gap between tiers is real but an upgraded army cracks vaults today.
  • Codes occasionally top up your resources — check the codes list before a roll session.
  • Roll odds and tier names are shown in-game; treat any external odds table for this game as a guess until the developer publishes one.
